SoE 2011 is a comprehensive and independent national review of the state of Australia’s environment, the pressures upon it, how effective we are at managing it and how it is likely to fare in the future.  For the first time in national environmental reporting, Australia State of the Environment 2011 includes graded ‘report-card’ style assessments of condition, pressures and management. It also includes discussions of the drivers of environmental change, resilience, risks, and future projections or ‘outlooks’.

The report covers nine aspects of the Australian environment – atmosphere, inland water, land, marine environment, Antarctic environment, biodiversity, heritage, built environment and coasts.  The 950 page report is supported by a 50 page summary or ‘In brief’ and a number of technical and workshop reports.
